Dico S.F. – Android

In the common acceptation of the word, an android is an artificial being, or a robot, which has the appearance, but only the appearance, of a human. We also speak of an “anthropoid” robot.

More precisely, and if we have faith in the word’s etymology (from the Greek “andros” = man and “eidos” = exterior appearance), an android should designate a masculine robot, whereas for a feminine robot we should use the word “gynoid”.

Matching words: Artificial intelligence, Cyborg, Gynoid, Humanoid, Robot

Examples :

  • C-3PO, in Star Wars
  • The android Data dans Star Trek: The Next Generation
  • A.I., Artificial Intelligence, directed by Steven Spielberg
