1. In the common acceptation of the word, a drone is a directed, programmed or autonomous (generally flying) device charged with reconnaissance, surveillance, espionage, or transporting mission. In science fiction, we generalise this concept to more or less autonomous robots, even A.I., charged with the same missions.
2. In the Star Trek universe, the “drone” term is used to designate a member of the Borg Collective whose intelligence and memory are replaced the group consciousness.
