In the Star Trek universe, a tricorder is a portative detector that can realise a large number of measurement: magnetic field, life signs, particles, electromagnetic radiations… all that an away team could have to measure.
There is a version specialized in the medical domain which allows, with a mobile probe, to make a precise diagnosis of a person.
