Concept invented at the end of the Star Trek: Voyager series, the ablative armour designates a supplemental spaceship hull which is designed to spread and soften energetic weapon shoots.
When the hull is hit, it vaporises in part, reducing the impact and the damages. Then, the ship can stand more shoots during a battle.
